OFFICER NOMINEE BIOS

Hi! I am Cathrina Nauth, and I am running for historian/webmaster of NEHS because I am interested in serving this club to the fullest extent. I am very creative when it comes to creating websites, as I have a few of my own. I also like to take pictures at events, the job of a historian. I am very responsible and dependable, and I always meet deadlines on time, meaning I will update the website constantly, and as soon as possible. I am always open to suggestions and I assure you that I am fully qualified to run the blog. I guarantee you that I won’t let you down!

Hey! My name is Farwah Shahab, and I am running for the position of your Vice President for NEHS 2011-2012. I have a lot of experience in officer positions, having held the position of Treasurer for NEHS last year, as well the position of Historian/Clerk for the National Thespian Honour Society this year. I was also voted Historian for Beta Club and Vice President for the Medical Association at Northview during my sophmore year, so I really know how to handle responsibility and leadership. I will be open to any ideas you may have, and will always take them into serious consideration. I know that Vice Presidents are sometimes thought of as people who are just there to look pretty, but I promise to actually make an effort to break that stereotype (even though I'm *really* good at standing around looking pretty ;) - kidding haha). Anyway, I am friendly, dependable, lovable ;), a confident speaker (you'll notice I always have something to say haha), and would absolutely love to represent all of you as Vice President this year. Vote for me, and I promise you will always have  smile on your face! =)         ♥ Farwah ♥

My name is Megan Roberts, and I am a senior who has been very involved at Peachtree Ridge ever since my freshman year. I serve as an officer in Habitat for Humanitaty - a club of which I have been a member since sophomore year. I have been a member of SGA and Junior Cabinet, and I am currently in Senior Cabinet. I also volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul whenever I'm not working my job at Publix.

So why would I make a good secretary? Well as an extremely active member in each activity I take part in, I assure you I am prepared to complete the basic tasks of a secretary for NEHS: taking notes and keeping them organized. I have only missed two years all throughout high school, so I assure you I will be present to keep track of the minutes at each meeting. I am prepared to have a great last year at high school and an even greater year with NEHS!
Hey guys! :) My name is Candice Brown and I am a Junior here at PRHS. I'm running for the offices of Secretary, Event Coordinator, and Treasurer of NEHS. For all of these positions, I feel like my organization and responsibility skills will be put to great use. I'm trustworthy so you can always count on me.

I know the task of a secretary is not easy. I will keep a detailed agenda of meetings and keep a record of time so everyone is up to date. Deadlines always have to be kept. I'm good at keeping time and making sure things are on track.

I love planning and collaborating with others. I believe getting along with people is essential when working with a group, whatever the situation. Everyone in NEHS needs a say whether they're an officer or not; I'd make sure of that. There's so much going on at PRHS, that as a group we can all make a difference because we all have a voice.

With all the fund-raising ideas we have planned for the year, the job of a Treasurer is a necessity. If I am chosen as officer, it would be my job to keep track of all the income from our fundraisers as well as prepare a budget for any other activities/outings our club would be interested in attending. I would keep an accurate record of not only the money but also club property and equipment (with the okay from Mrs. Pinkerton of course).    Thank you for taking the time to read my summary. I hope you will take it into consideration when voting. :)

Hi, I’m Lauren Rector and I’d like to be your president for the coming year of NEHS. For many years language arts has been a passion of mine, and I am so excited to be a part of a club with members who share that passion.
Last year I served as historian. Unfortunately, there were hardly any events to take pictures of. We all had great ideas for what we wanted our club to be; they were just never executed. This year I want to change that! I want us to seize the opportunity we have to create a magnificent club. I will not only bring ideas to the table but actions to follow them.   Our club fell short last year because we didn’t know each other. Seniors talked to seniors, juniors to juniors, sophmores to sophmores. Many of us came into the first meeting as strangers and left the last meeting as strangers as well. Let’s change this! We are such a small group that can get to know each other in a breeze. From what I saw last meeting, we have a spectrum of personalities in our club that will make this year truly great as long as we take the time to befriend one another.    Lastly, I designed last year’s t-shirt and I would love for us to work on one for this year so that all members can show some NEHS pride : )

My name is Michelle Connor, i am a senior this year. I am running for vice president because I want to truly make national english honors society about growing and flourishing as inteligent students. I want to inspire us by building our club to be hands on and by the students. I want it to not only be just work but also fun, a club in which we as individuals work as a team. I am very dependable, and also have lots of experience as I was public relations officer for SGA. I am also in Philharmonic Orchestra and Varsity Cheerleading. I try to be well rounded and be in clubs of all types so as your Vice President I will listen to not just my own opinion but the opinions of every member. I also am in habitat for humanity, red cross, and spanish club. I like many of you want our club to be the best. I'm weliing to put 150% into honor society and if u let me I will work as hard for our club as I possibly can. If given the chance I will try my hardest to make National English Honor Society an extraordinary experience and club this year !:)

First (unofficial) meeting of the year Thursday 9-29-2011

We met yesterday for our first meeting of the year.
Here are the highlights of our meeting:
     1.  We introduced ourselves and shared a favorite recent read.
     2.  We then discussed the following activities as things we'd like to take on this year:
Reading at Parsons (Mrs P will make contact with them)
Writing Contest at Hull (Mrs P will ask what time of year would best serve them)
Outings: possible Gwinnett County Library "Fall into the Arts" author talks and/or Margaret Mitchell House (Lauren Rector finding out more information on both)
How to serve the school? - Book Recommendations, National Reading week/day?, Character Spirit day?, Help with Literary magazine? Host a poetry Coffee house
Fundraiser: have one both semesters - Ramen sales (Kate has access to a Sam's club)

      3. IMPORTANT: Club meetings will be the first Thursday of every month, so ...
First official meeting will be this coming Thursday, October 6th.   We will conduct voting for officers, inducting new members, pictures for yearbook, bring FOOD if you'd like :)

Also, club dues will need to be paid through mealpay.  New members need to pay the National dues (roughly $12) + t-shirt cost.  Old members only pay for this year's t-shirt.    I will let you guys know the exact prices at Thursday's meeting.
